Since the main part of a Sukkah is the Schach, one must be able to sit directly under them. If the Schach is obstructed in any manner, the Sukkah would not be usable for the Mitzvah. However, if the Schach is only blocked by a sheet hanging over a 2 pointed bedpost, it is not like a real block.

2 posted bed -VS- 4 posted bed:

A 2 posted be makes a triangle. A triangle does not have any area that is 1 Amah.

Also, a 2 posted bed is less than 10 Tefachim.

Tools for Mishnah review

We will be starting to learn Mishnah this week. Each day the students should review the Mishnah. There will be a video on this blog to aid in this.

Below are some other tools:

1) https://www.themercava.com/app/. This amazing website allows you to access many Sefarim including Mishnah Sukkah (with phrase-based translation).

2) http://www.emishnah.com/index1.html. This is a well-build Mishnah website with translations and explanations.

3) Below is an Artzenu video of a trip to Neot Kadomim, a park in Israel with many of the Sukkot from Mishnah built to explore.

Here are some other helpful tools for learning Mishnah.

Why and how did we write Mishnah?

Teaching Mesorah
TTTO A Milion Dreams (Click here for the music)
Written by Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi

As I lay awake in bed
I can see where we will go
to a place far away

with not Sanhedrin to guide us
no one rabbi to teach us
and Mesorah can be lost

oh I say oh, I say we write it down now
but they say yes they say its all by heart now
oh I say oh, I say it can be saved
it will take some work on our part

we'll write 6 Sidarim of Mishnah
each topic its own Masechtah
in this way, we will teach the Mesorah

a book for Shabbat or Pesachim
a seder for all of Nezeekin
with 6 we will write Torah SheBa'al Peh
we will save the Torah SheBa'al Peh

Zero'im will be for seed
Mo'ed for the Chagim needs
weddings found in Seder Nash'em

damages seder Nezikin
Karbanot in Kadshim
and Taharot for purity

oh I say oh, I say we write it down now
but they say yes they say its all by heart now
oh I say oh, I say it can be saved
it will take some work on our part

we'll write 6 Sidarim of Mishnah
